Borrowed the info from a professional hitting instructor's blog for those that take improving their hitting seriously so I only took what I thought would answer your question:

A Deliberate, Structured Hitting Routine

Repeat before the 1st pitch and after each sequential pitch:

1st Gear- Staging Mode

Outside box if league rules allow:

Situational Awareness &

Look to 3rd Base Coach

2nd Gear- Focus Mode

Outside box if league rules allow:

Visual Acuity Checks:

Depth Perception Tune Up

Focus on 2B's cap logo, then shift focus to Pitcher's cap logo

Begin Pre-Pitch Personal Hitting Mantra (See Hitting Mantra blog)

3rd Gear- Deep Focus Mode

In box:

Deep Breath And Exhale

Begin Fine Centering-Soft Centering (Focus on Pitcher's Logo & then re-focus

to the Release Point and repeat to avert losing your edge[alertness] and being

hypnotized by watching the Pitcher's Windup or staring at the Release Point)

Gently shift your weight from your front side to your back side over your center

point (40-60) and back as you fine center and soft center. Keep rocking.

Initiate your Hitting Rhythm Thoughts (see Rhythmic See & Hit Thoughts blog for

what you can do with Your Pitch) in time with the rocking weight shift.

Key emphasis is to do this simultaneously with a controlled, calculated rhythm.

Slightly open mouth to relax the jaw.

Inhale through the nose while rocking forward and exhale (hiss) from

the mouth on backshift.

4th Gear- Tracking Mode

In box:

From Release Point

Inhale rocking forward and hold breath on last backshift before release point

Keep internal organs compressed.

Identify pitch and velocity

Begin Tracking Count…Yes, Yes, Yes, YES (squeeze handle on contact...see blog)

or Yes, Yes, Yes, NO.

Post Hit

Dugout:

Enjoy the congratulations and the pats on the back. Reward

yourself with a cup of water.

Hitting is an act of controlled aggression. To be a good hitter that can consistently drive a pitch, you must put yourself into the role of being the aggressor in a confrontation with a pitcher. A hitter attacks the pitch, and the pitcher now becomes the victim. Conversely, a batter, that doesn't view himself as a hitter, will be a victim of the pitcher because he is defensive, and will remain that way until he reverses the role by attacking the pitch and thus, victimizing the pitcher. Grasp this concept. Quit calling yourself a batter and become a HITTER.
