any tips for a travel softball catcher?
I just tried out for a travel softball team in my area, for the position as catcher. i have been offered a spot on the team, and im going to accept it. what im asking is if theres any tips that i should know or would help me out in a higher level of catching. im going to be a freshmen this year so im going out for the high school team also. any tips would be helpfull thanks ! 
As a pitcher, I know what makes an awesome catcher.
First, you have to know how to frame the ball. Every pitcher will throw some balls that are not strikes and if you can frame them correctly, the umpire may call them strikes.
Second, you have to catch fast pitching. If you are afraid of the ball coming at you when you are catching, then practice catching the ball out of the pitching machine. Then you know it will be a strike.
Third, you have to be a hitter. Even if you are not a catcher, hitting is very important on any softball team. I would recommend going to a hitting coach to perfect you swing.
Fourth, get faster on the bases. This is also a basic skill that every team needs to have. Practice sprints at home and when you are at the park, practice running around the bases.
Fifth, learn how to pop-up slide and slide by. These will become very helpful when you are running the bases.
Sixth, learn another position. Whether it is shortstop, second, third, first, or outfield, you will eventually need to learn another position. This is so when you are not catching, you have another place in the field to play so you do not sit.
Seventh, learn to throw far. When there are runners on the base, you will need to throw to second, third, and first. So get quick at popping up and throwing after the pitch is caught.
